Farm Emergency Planning: More Than Just Property Protection
When it comes to emergency planning on the farm, it’s not just about protecting buildings and equipment—it’s about looking out for your family, your workers, your animals, and your livelihood. Farms face unique risks, from wildfires and floods to power outages and equipment failures, so being prepared is key.
Taking time now to plan ahead can help reduce damage, keep everyone safe, and get things back to normal faster. That means thinking through what could go wrong, having a clear plan in place, and making sure you’ve got the supplies and support you need to manage through at least 72 hours on your own. It’s all about being ready, staying resilient, and protecting what matters most.
The Ministry of Agriculture has many resources to help farm operations prepare for an emergency.
