Commissioning of New Water Supply Well 6
The Township of Spallumcheen would like to advise all South Local Area Service (LAS) water users that a new water supply well will undergo its initial commissioning on August 5, 2026.
The Township of Spallumcheen has invested in a new high production well for the South Local Area Service with grant funding under the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program. This well will ensure reliable water is available for those residents and businesses connected to the South Local Area Service as it adds system reliability and redundancy. It does not increase the total amount of water available to the South Local Area Service, and does not change any current water use restrictions in effect. As part of the commissioning process for this new well, the Township's contractor will be demonstrating that the newly constructed well and associated infrastructure are operating and performing as designed. This testing is an important step in bringing the new source online and improving the reliability of the South water system.
Water Quality Advisory
During the commissioning process, the South LAS will be placed on a Water Quality Advisory in accordance with Interior Health requirements.
Please note that Interior Health advises a Water Quality Advisory is different from a Boil Water Advisory. More information on what a Water Quality Advisory is can be found through the Interior Health Drinking Water website. The advisory is being implemented as a precautionary measure while the new well is being tested and water quality is monitored.
The Township will conduct water quality sampling throughout the commissioning process and continue sampling afterward to confirm that water quality standards are being met. Interior Health will lift the advisory once two consecutive water quality tests indicate acceptable results according to their guidelines. It is anticipated that the Water Quality Advisory will be in effect for at least seven (7) days.
