Paying Your Property Taxes

Property Tax Procedures for 2020

  • The 2020 property tax notices will be mailed out May 29, 2020.
  • The office can only hold 2 customers at a time; the line up will be outside on the right side of the building and is marked by pylons.
  • All paperwork must be filled out before you get to the cashier. 
  • There is a drop and go zone for those dropping off completed HOG’s and cheques, go up the wheelchair ramp and drop your envelope in the mail slot.  You can claim your home owner grant online
  • Property taxes can be paid: online, by cheque and Interac.
  • No cash or credit cards accepted
  • Due date is July 2, 2020
  • Penalty date is October 1, 2020

 

Property Tax Notices will be mailed out in the last week of May 2020 and the due date is Thursday, July 2nd, 2020. To avoid a 10% penalty, all outstanding balances must be paid and all Home Owners Grants (if eligible) must be claimed by September 30, 2020 to avoid a 10% penalty that will be applied on October 1, 2020.

How and where to pay your Property Taxes & claim your Home Owner Grant:

  • In person at the Municipal Hall, 4144 Spallumcheen Way, Spallumcheen, B.C

  • Mailed to: 4144 Spallumcheen Way, Spallumcheen, B.C., V0E 1B6.  * Note that Postmarks are not considered proof of payment date. *

  • Claim your Home Owner Grant online on the Township's Website

  • Payments can also be made by internet or telephone banking (Contact your personal bank to set this up).

    Please note: We accept Cheque,  Post-dated Cheques and  Debit (make sure you are aware of your daily limit).

    Property Taxes Paid by Mortgage Company

    If your Property Taxes are paid through your mortgage company you are still required to claim the Home Owner Grant yourself. This can be done by the same methods listed above, through our website, or by mailing the signed Home Owner Grant portion of your Property Tax Notice. Payments and Grants must be received by the due date to avoid the 10% penalty.

    Home Owner Grant

    If you are eligible, claiming your Home Owner Grant is an important part in the process of paying your Property Taxes. The Home Owner Grant form, located on the bottom of your Tax Notice, must be completed and returned to the Township by the due date (July 2nd). Neglecting to claim your Grant by the due date will result in a 10% penalty, as it is considered unpaid taxes. If your mortgage company remits your tax payment on your behalf, ensure that you claim the Grant as your mortgagor cannot do this for you. Use one of the above listed methods to claim your Home Owner Grant.

    If you are eligible to claim the Home Owner Grant and would like to do so online enter your 8-digit roll number (DO NOT enter the first three digits 323) and your access code. These can be found in the top right hand section of your Tax Notice. You will be prompted to enter your name, phone number, and date. If you are claiming the additional Grant, you will have to enter your birth date. Once completed, you will receive a confirmation that the Grant has been claimed. Make sure you print the confirmation for your records. If you do not receive a confirmation, then it is possible the Homeowner Grant Application did not go through. Try again or call the Township office to confirm.

    Pre-authorized Payment Plan for Property Tax

    Would you like to set money aside for your next year's Property Taxes? The Property Tax Pre-authorized Prepayment Plan could be for you! This program offers a convenient method of paying your taxes in advance. The plan begins in August of the current year and continues through to May of the following year. When you join the prepayment plan, your monthly installment will be automatically deducted from your bank account. Simple interest will be paid by the Township on your prepayments. Application forms are available at the Municipal Hall or you can download the form in the link below.

    2021 Property Tax Pre-Payment Form

  • If you are currently enrolled in the pre-payment plan, your Tax Notice will show the balance that is outstanding on your Property Tax account. Please note that even if you have overpaid your Property Taxes, you still must claim your Home Owner Grant on or before July 2nd, 2020.
  • The pre-authorized payment plan does not automatically renew - you must complete a new application annually.

     

    Property Tax Deferment Program

  • Starting April 2020, BC residential property owners can apply for property tax deferment on their principal residence online - quickly and easily. And for the first time, owners can choose to auto renew their application.

  • Municipalities will no longer be responsible for accepting applications.

  • Families with Children - Property Tax Deferment Program

  • You may qualify for this program if you are a homeowner financially supporting a dependent child under the age of 18.
